An Olympics spokesperson said smoking would not be allowed in any of the ticketed areas.

He however, said, it would be impossible to impose the smoking ban on non-ticketed areas.

“Whether we will have any designated smoking areas is still under discussion,” the Daily Star quoted him, as saying.

The anti- smoking group, Action on Smoking Health, said the ban made “perfect sense”.

“I can understand if people are sitting side by side but not a ban in open areas or open concourses,” a smokers’ lobby group Forest member Simon Clark said.
